Our Wishlist

OUR EVERYDAY NEEDS:
**These are the things that we will end up buying if no one donates them. Donating such items really lowers the financial burden and allows us to do more in the community.

1. Men's casual used clothing: jeans, shorts, t-shirts, flannels, overcoats, etc. We do not keep ladies' clothing because we do not encounter nearly as many women as we do men. You may donate anything, but we will probably re-donate or place them in our garage sale.

2. Men's used tennis shoes and boots sizes 8-13. These are hard to come by and very necessary to homeless men.

3. Men's NEW white t-shirts and undershirts, socks, and underwear. These are supplies that must be new, and because they are not cheap, they are a great expense for us.

4. Bottled Water, gatorade. Especially during the summer.
5. Toiletries: soap bars, toilet paper, dental care, deodorant, shaving supplies, etc. Not only do we need to have these on hand for anyone who wants to shower at the community house, but we also provide them for homeless people.

6. Non-perishable Food Items: Although we are thrilled with any food donations, at the time we are overwhelmed with canned vegetables and very low on canned meat (tuna, chicken, potted meat, etc.) and entrees (Ravioli, Chili, etc.) and canned fruit (pineapple chunks, mandarin oranges, cocktail, etc.) We can also use small package basic grocery items such as 1 lb. bags of rice or dry beans, powdered milk, flour, sugar, Jiffy mixes, cereal, cereal bars, potato flakes, peanut butter, jelly, MacNCheese, Ramen Noodles, Spaghetti,

7. Perishable Food Items: Sometimes folks want to donate leftovers from events or businesses. Usually we can make use of these before they spoil. We can use them in our community meal, and we can also try to distribute them among our friends in need. If we do end up having to throw them away, at least we gave it a shot, and we appreciate your generosity!

8. Used camping supplies: tents, sleeping bags, lanterns, fuel stoves, flashlights, glovewarmers, etc. Don't buy these things new as they can get very expensive.

9. BLANKETS AND HEATERS FOR NEIGHBORHOOD FAMILIES (during the winter) and BOX FANS (during the summer.) USED is the best for all of these items. But if you purchase new, Walmart is the best place. Again, strive for FUNCTION! We don't need fancy blankets, just warm ones. The most practical value is the simple fleece blankets that cost $5.00 for Twin, and 10.00 for Queen. Small space heaters really help people through the winter (about $20) and box fans help people in the summer (about $15)

OUR LONG-TERM/ MAJOR WISHLIST

1. A 8-foot wooden privacy fence around the property. Even though we feel perfectly safe in our current location, we feel that a privacy fence would provide a certain sense of security, especially if there are young people involved.

2. A good quality microwave.

3. A Murphy bed (folds down from the wall) This is just another way of making the most out of our space. Even though FCH is not a "shelter," there are often overnight guests in extraordinary or emergency situations.

4. An wall-mounted ironing board Another way of saving space and staying organized.

5. A portable storage building We are currently using the Mission House (the back house) for storage, but the building is rapidly deteriorating and will not be restored. Also, it is easily entered by thieves.

6. A short bus (hey, this is a wish list) The idea here is to have something to use for outreach. We would probably take all of some of the seats out and carry homeless supplies with us when we go out to the camps. Because I am not a mechanic or a millionaire, it would need to be in decent shape or it will be more trouble than it is worth.

7. A good quality weed-eater The yard is out of control.

8. Raised beds, dirt, and plants for the garden in the spring The entire backyard where the garden is located is covered by a layer of old broken bricks making it nearly impossible to grow a garden. We have resorted to raised beds and bagged dirt which gets very expensive and hinders our ability to garden.

BUT MOST OF ALL, We need YOU! None of these generous donations will mean much to our friends without the most important need of all, friendship. The thing that ends up fostering change is love. More than food or clothes or fences, we need good people who want to be involved in FCH in some capacity. Come and dream with us. Check out the Volunteer tab and see how you can become involved!
